Fellow Conservationists,
Today is an exciting day in conservation as Seacology, Sri Lanka based NGO Sudeesa (formerly known as Small Fishers Federation of Lanka), and the government of Sri Lanka announce their comprehensive plan to protect ALL of Sri Lanka’s mangroves. The mangroves will be protected, monitored and in some cases replanted by local communities who will receive micro-financing and job training in exchange.
This project will have enormous benefits for marine wildlife populations, carbon sequestering, and oceanic and atmospheric health. Additionally, Sri Lankan citizens will benefit by maintaining their key mangrove buffer zone, which greatly decreasing damage caused by tsunamis, cyclones and other storms.
We at Seacology are very excited to announce this project and wanted to share this news with you, considering our mutual interest in conservation. More information about this environmental milestone can be found at . We would appreciate it if you spread the news on your website and social media.
